Marker Art #47: Do Not Fear

I drew the majority of this piece while listening to a lecture given by Cornell West and Carl Dix, when they came to campus in May. It was a really inspirational lecture–despite the fact that both of the speakers disagreed on a lot of things, and that I disagreed with Read more…
I remember drawing this during a course, when everyone was talking about pretty and neat theories about theology and God. I did the outline first, just kind of doodling about how odd that conversation felt–like there was a whole messy world underneath this pretty suburban house.
This piece is just a doodle that I did in my notebook during class. I like it a lot, actually, and it’s a template for a thank you card which is for sale on Zazzle.
A poster for International House’s production of “12 Angry Jurors” by Reginald Rose.
A commissioned piece for the U of C Divinity School Coffee Shop about green efforts!
I was asked again this year to produce a piece for One! International’s January Gala Fundraiser. The original piece will be available for auction and all the proceeds of the piece will go to the organization. I volunteered for One! last year, 2010, in October and November. I’m always glad to support these Read more…
This one is quite simple. Welcome to Chicago. I’m playing with the El system, a bit of melancholy and a few colors that I use very rarely.
Now that I’m in school again, I often feel like there’s something wild and uncontrollable that can’t get out.

Lake Superior: Updated 2011 Lake Superior has a very near and dear place in my heart. Ice cold and lingering up there in the north, it seems like the haunted gateway to a different world. As I moved from state to state and house to house in my childhood, summer Read more…

This image uses one of my favorite lines from my current writing project obsession, one that has no title, but uses my favorite things in the world as talking points: the future, cities, trains, and star-crossed lovers. The text in her ‘wings’ reads: He was pumped full Read more…
While I was on my epic Graduate School tour in April, I was on an airplane four times in one week. So I spent a lot of time browsing…
I don’t have much of a story for this one: I wanted to draw a tree, and after a while it simply developed. I put in some more American looking buildings in the city, skyscrapers that may look familiar to some people. Guess it was a premonition for what was Read more…
I drew and donated this image to One! International, the organization that I worked with in India. It was auctioned at their fundraiser in January. The original artwork is now held by a generous person who helped support the amazing families and teachers that I worked with in Mumbai.
Part of a Calendar on Zazzle. Are you Sure? is the first image I completed after I returned from Korea and India, and was in my own country again. Shaken, a little, by the oddity of this, I returned to the roots of these drawings–Ghanaian trotros, steam-powered trains, and potent, Read more…
